B&W Comes Back To Malaysia. The Experts Group.

B&W speakers makes a come back to these shores. Arcam, Classe and Abbey Road Studio cables came along for a ride. If you're following Hi-Fi Avenue blog, then this is probably old news for you, but for those whom do not know, better late then never.

Abbey Road Studio cables on display.
The Experts Group, based in Singapore, has just opened a new showroom to show case the above audio specialty brands. The showroom, located between the B1 parking basement and Cold Storage supermarket at Jaya One commercial building, is tastefully decorated with minimalist design theme.

B&W I-pod accessories.
The "Lifestyle" home theater sound system featuring the PV-1 sub woofer.
The exclusive demo area for "high end" displays.
The Classe Delta series CDP and pre amp.
The Classe Delta series power amp.
The jewel in the showroom has gotta be the Kenneth Grange(famed British industrial designer) designed B&W Diamond Signature speakers. The demo pair, finished in white and top by a marble tweeter pod, looks absolutely exquisite(I kept thinking to myself, these RM$100K babies are going to be perfect for my audio cave!). The partnering electronics are a stack of Classe Delta CDP, pre and power amps. I do hope the system is better optimised on my next visit as I believed I only heard 20-30% of the system's potential performance.

B&W Diamond Signature, only 1000 pairs will be made, an instant collectible.
A close up of the mid Kevlar driver and diamond tweeter in it's dedicated marble pod.
B&W 804 and 805 S series speakers.
B&W CM series in black, and 6 series floor standers.

B&W CM series book shelf speakers with Arcam "lifestyle" mini hifi.
The latest Arcam FMJ series electronics.
The multi award wining Arcam Solo all in one system.
Almost the full range of B&W speakers are on display, along with Arcam electronics. The showroom is attended by Henry Loh and Sam Chan, both very helpful and friendly guys.

Feel Like Making Love. Woongsan.

Woongsan simply oozes sex appeal.

Here's probably one of the first commercially available HQCD that you could buy, other than test disc. The sound and recording is superb. The clarity is there, yet never hyped, with outstanding musical details flowing very naturally. None of that digital music medium's artifacts are presented.

Woongsan is Korean, and her backing band is Japanese. She's got good vocal range and can at times hint at those sixties female jazz vocals. Some of the tracks that stands out(for me at least) are:

1) Feel like making love

2) It had to be you

5) Don't cry

7) Don't be that way

13) Yesterday

While most of tracks on this CD are popular Jazz covers, Woongsan wrote two songs which is listed as track 5) and 13) above. I find that she's actually quite good and would prefer her to do more of her own materials then covers. The covers are done in typical Japanese predictable and orderly arrangement. However, musician ship is excellent as to the usual Japanese high standards. Yet most of the other tracks not listed above just feels "tired" arrangement wise.

A promotion poster for a "live" gig in Japan.

With a sexy looking cover photo and a rather "suggestive" title, Feel Like Making love is almost a sure fire hit with the middle age audiophile crowd.

It's A Ho! Ho! Ho! December.

Some nice X'mas music to get in the the holidays mood.

Yep, folks! We are drawing the curtains to the year 2009. It's being a financially challenging year for many, but hope fully, most of us can find solace in hifi and music. As this month is full of holidays, even in sunny Malaysia, we at HiFi-Unlimited also take some time off to reflect on the year behind, and what a bountiful year it was, hifi wise. I could not remember a time in my short hifi journey, where there's so many events and new products being brought in to these shores.

As we wind up the year, there will be only two equipment on test this month. We have the following on test this month:

Metronome Technologie CD One T Signature. This new high end arrival has show great sonic promises so far in our auditions at CMY Audio & Visual showrooms. We take this baby home for a spin.

We are still on integrated amps this month, and a tube pedigree one at that, it's the Manley stereo integrated amp with 2 x 40 watts on tap in ultra linear mode.

We may have a few surprises in store if things works our way.

Whilst my digital front is languishing in the store room, awaiting for parts, I've still not able to source a VAM1252, Philips CD Pro mechanism yet, despite some interesting leads. My other musical source, namely the black art of vinyl, has taken a whole new lease of life.

Last but not least, may the new year bring us new hifi ideas and endeavours, and may we all have filling rice bowls for 2010 too!
